Dear Parishioners of St. Elizabeth Seton,
We have new pews! While the arrival of the pews signaled an important step in our renovation project, the departure of the Marshall Pew 18-wheeler and the wonderful team of Tammy and Mervin was also very touching. In the 8 days that they were part of the St. Elizabeth Seton community; they became friends and part of the team. They departed after receiving a prayer and blessing of Fr. Williams. Tammy quietly shared that that never happens when they complete a project and she was deeply touched by the support of Fr. Williams throughout the process.
The last few days of installation was a very important to the entire process. Once the pews are in place, each pew is connected to the floor through metal posts drilled into the tile floor. I am happy to report that after drilling hundreds of holes into the tile, we only had two minor cracks that were easily repaired. Once installed and secured, the kneelers are placed and attached. Connecting the new kneelers (officially known as a prie-dieus translated “pray God”) is a long and very involved process as each kneeler is also numbered to fit exactly at the pew it is assigned. In addition, we made the decision to purchased hydraulic lifts for each kneeler to assist in pulling them in place and easily lift. In addition, the hydraulic lifts and rubber feet make them very quiet.
Many of you have asked, “what’s next”? Unfortunately, there are many other items that need to be completed prior to processing Our Lord back to our renovated church. In the weeks to come, we will be installing handrails around the choir and sanctuary ramp, replacing doors, completing the restrooms and cleaning!
During this long renovation journey, the most lasting impression I have is the goodness and willingness of hard-working people to help us reimagine and renew St. Elizabeth Seton. As we thank them with our words of gratitude (and cookies) I am reminded of the passage, “But to do good and communicate forget not; for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” Hebrews 13:16.
