Dear Parishioners of St. Elizabeth Seton,
Have you met the painters from Paint Corps over the past weeks? They have worked in the heat for two weeks, applying over 250 gallons of paint on the exterior walls of St. Elizabeth Seton. The team includes two brothers who have devised a system to get each other’s attention. The lead is Saul who drives from Mesa every day because he asked the company to allow him to paint a Catholic Church. If you listen carefully, you will hear an occasional whistle. The brothers must have exceptional hearing, because as one is on the noisy diesel lift and the other is on the ground, they hear each other’s whistle and share information with sign language and signals.
Many of our skilled teams of carpenters, masons, electricians and flooring specialists are family members. It appears that a skill is taught, possibly handed down from generation to generation to perfect their trade. It is also apparent that they enjoy working together. There is laughter, smiles and a sense of confidence and respect that is so very obvious to everyone around.
These teams of workers remind me of the importance of family. Not just our immediate family, but friends and colleagues who make up our extended family. As we celebrate Independence Day, (Fourth of July), and proudly display our American flags, wear red, white and blue, and plan picnics to celebrate the 250th anniversary of this wonderful country, let’s also celebrate family. Reach out to neighbors, family near and far and remember to laugh, smile and share your love and respect. And remember to “whistle” a happy tune on this holiday. We have so much to celebrate during our Jubilee Year!
In Christ and with Gratitude,
Dr. Kathleen H. Goeppinger
