In the midst of a significant but small gathering, Fr. Williams swung a sledgehammer signifying the beginning of our actual renovation. A group of 6 tradesmen looked on and gave us a thumbs up as he made a substantial hole in the “false” wall that is coming down. Later in the morning, as the dedicated crew began removing the choir and sanctuary flooring, the enormity of this project became real. Renovation has begun!
I found it significant that two of the laborers stood before our mosaic and made the sign of the cross before they began their task. Were they not sharing what all of us feel, we may have a heavy task to do, but Christ is with us as we venture into any journey or task.
I have witnessed first-hand the impact of working in a church can have on an individual. The one young man, Michael, who removed every pew himself, was so proud of his accomplishment and work that he requested a pew to take to his home to remind him of the inspiration he felt as he accomplished a difficult task within days.
The painting contractor asked if he could take before and after pictures to remind him of the importance of this project and share the work with his family.
My commitment is to record and share these stories, event and impressions with all of you through the weekly Bulletin. This renovation began with all of you, sharing your ideas and dreams; it is happening because of your generosity, and love of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. Let’s remember those helping us carry out our plans by keeping them in our prayers as we journey forward together.
In Christ,
Dr. Kathleen H. Goeppinger
