Dear St. Elizabeth Seton Community,

As we begin the renovation of our church, and our worship space has transitioned to the Hall, we have carefully preserved our rich history and important artifacts. The Archive Committee has spent the past year under the leadership of Joanna Smith, collecting pictures, stories and news articles that highlight the founders of our parish and the wonderful traditions that we continue today.

Our parishioner and architect James Day has carefully studied the original church plans and is helping us restore our Sanctuary to how it was first designed. This includes removing two “false walls” that were added several years ago to accommodate organ speakers. We are also reducing the steps up to the Sanctuary to two as the church initially had. Mr. Day has played an instrumental role in helping us achieve a building permit with Maricopa County quickly and without revisions. We thank him for his work and dedication to the parish.

A treasure was uncovered when we found the original Ambry (where the Holy Oils are kept). The design on the Ambry matches the Tabernacle. It has been restored and polished and will be installed once again near the Baptismal font.

St. Elizabeth Seton was once adorned with chandeliers. New brass chandeliers will again be installed and dropped from the ceiling of the church to enhance the beauty of the dome.

Together we have ushered in a new beginning for our parish. As we look forward to our renaissance, lets cherish our past. It is more than artifacts that impact the church, it is all of us and our call to prayer. As we worship together in our new temporary home, let us reflect on the following prayer,

God of Love, You are with us in every transition and change. As we enter this new day with excitement and even some anxiety, we recall your deep compassion, presence, and abounding love. Be with us as we move forward, rejoicing with You and supporting one another. We ask this in your Holy Name. Amen. – Joseph Shadel, Xavier University

In Christ,
