Group Purpose:
The Saint Elizabeth Seton Parish Council is a visioning body created to offer assistance and counsel to the Pastor. We research the needs, hopes, and activities of the parish members in order to best represent the interest of the entire parish. We establish and support committees involved in various parish endeavors including faith formation, social outreach and evangelism. We assist the Pastor in building the communion between our parish and the broader ecclesial communities of the local dioceses and the entire church.
Group Objectivities:
To identify and implement strategies to address the parish needs. We do this by conducting surveys, newsletters, parish bulletin announcements, and a suggestion box. We then implement strategies like: the welcoming committee, bible study groups, parish festival, and family fun days.
Members:
There are seven elected parish council members all of whom must be members of the parish and 18 years of age or older to participate. Members are nominated by another parishioner and then picked by lottery by the Pastor on a designated Sunday. Term of membership is three years and two consecutive terms may be served. From its membership, a chair and vice chair is elected by the parish council annually. Members are expected to attend and participate in the monthly meetings that usually last one and a half hours.
Meetings:
Monthly meetings are held in the parish on the fouth Friday of each month at 9:30 AM
Communications:
Parish council meeting minutes are published and posted on the bulletin board in the parish center entry. Also parishioners are encouraged to engage the council on issues regarding our parish. The parish council meetings are a perfect way to get involved through our “open to the parish” council meetings format.
