St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Community Lent/Easter
2010 "JESUS, YOU ARE THE LIGHT" Dear Parishioners,
Recently I stopped at a large pizzeria
that caters to families. It was a week-day, just before noon. The place
was deserted. I thought that I would have a quick and quiet lunch.
Suddenly a fairly large group of children and some adults walked into the
restaurant. The dining room was large with enough room for a dozen or more
parties. Where do you think the children gathered? You guessed it-near my
table. But that was okay even though it was quite
noisy. Then something ordinary but very
beautiful happened. The mother produced the birthday cake, placed candles
on it, lit them and all sang (including me). I could see the little boy's
face in front of the cake. His eyes were wide and his face was illumined
by the light. Then after a quick wish: poof! All the candles were blown
out. Then they feasted on the pizza, soda pop and birthday cake. They gave
me a piece of the birthday cake
too. Every year we blow out more and more
candles from our birthday cake. During Lent and Easter we celebrate our
Re-Birthday (Baptism). It was then that we were 'born again' and received
the Light of Christ! Let's keep it burning within us and help fan into
flame the spark in others. May the bonfire we build and light at the Vigil
remind us of the power and the glory of Jesus, Our Light. When we all join
our lights to His, we will bring light and warmth to a cold and frightened
world. Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia! A blessed Resurrection Day (Re-Birthday)
to all. Please don't blow out your candle but do join us for the
Feast. Your servant and
friend, Rev. Franklin L.
